Comprehensive Air Quality Testing for Your Lab
The Aire~Analysis program is designed to thoroughly assess your lab’s air quality, and accomplish a few related goals:
- Raise visibility to the role of ambient air in the lab and the negative impact that airborne contaminants can have on the primary function of a lab
- Assess the current air quality in the lab, the infrastructure of the existing air handling system, and the geographic profile of surrounding air
- Provide a roadmap for addressing any known, or detected, issues interfering with achieving the goal of complete air purity
To conduct the program, LifeAire team members will schedule an onsite visit to address the education and assessment goals listed above.
The program begins with a detailed review of the pervasive nature of ambient air and how several forms of airborne contaminants can defeat first-line defenses like HEPA filtration and culturing under oil to permeate the most sensitive areas of a lab and influence the success of embryogenesis. This presentation is an interactive discussion with supporting materials that allows your team to ask questions, address common misperceptions, and understand how comprehensively air can adversely impact your lab’s daily function.
Concurrent with this educational discussion is the on-site assessment phase. This phase involves in-room and outside air testing for the duration of the visit. It also involves an inspection of the existing air handling system (HVAC – heating, ventilation, air conditioning) on premise, including gathering details on installation and maintenance as well as physical placement and current operating condition of all equipment.
Testing of the existing air quality in the lab establishes a baseline for future reference. The testing is completed by an accredited, third party independent testing facility. Analysis includes TO11 and TO15 tests, specifically designed to accurately record the level of embryotoxic VOCs within the lab. Testing also examines the levels of non-viable and viable particulate levels, as well as the levels of bacteria, viruses and mold.
Inspecting the existing HVAC system captures the condition of the current air handler, the associated duct-work and filtration media, whether the appropriate level of positive pressure is present within the lab and the associated procedure rooms, and the system history of installation and maintenance.
Post-Site Visit Assessment Report
Once the on-site air testing and educational program have completed, the testing results and air handling information gathered during the visit will be analyzed and compiled into a summary report that outlines the current status of ambient air in the lab, the health and operational performance of the existing air handling system, an evaluation of existing air purity in relation to industry standards and industry leading labs, and—depending on results—a roadmap offering potential solutions to achieve improved air purity.

Suggestions for improving air purity in a lab that we’ve tested vary from site to site, but can include elements like the following:
- Adjust the positive pressure of the IVF Lab as it relates to the clinical procedure rooms
- Adjust the desired temperature and humidity inside the lab space to prevent the possibility of viable particulate growth within the duct-work
- Add an in-room air purification system in the procedure rooms
- Install a pass-through window between the retrieval room and IVF Lab
- Budget for an in-duct air purification system
