LifeAire Improves IVF Success

Clinical Pregnancy Rates Increase an Average of 19.7 Percentage Points after Installation of LifeAire System

Lehigh Valley, PA—LifeAire Systems, a technology leader in air filtration for healthcare, announced that data compiled from 14 in vitro fertilization (IVF) programs show an average improvement of 19.7 percentage points in clinical pregnancy rates following installation of its system.

Remediating up to 99.999% of biological and chemical contaminants within the air, LifeAire Systems’ patented, multi-stage purification media creates a pristine environment most conducive to optimal embryo development. The system provides the greatest level of protection from airborne pathogens throughout every stage of embryogenesis, resulting in more positive pregnancy outcomes for patients undergoing IVF treatment.

George Koulianos, M.D., Director of The Center for Reproductive Medicine, Mobile, AL said the impact of LifeAire was seen almost immediately. “Once we put in the LifeAire System, we saw a dramatic increase in our center’s pregnancy rates, above and beyond where we were. We’ve exceeded our wildest expectations in terms of outcomes.”

LifeAire’s in-duct design treats not only the source air before it enters the laboratory space but also the return air that heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems (HVAC) recirculate. The system provides added protection against threatening airborne pathogens entering from an outside source beyond the laboratory’s control. In fact, Krystene DiPaola, M.D., Medical Director of the University of Cincinnati Center for Reproductive Health, said being able to remediate outside pathogens was a huge concern as the facility is located off Ohio’s Interstate 75.

“Our embryos have been insulated from any kind of environmental issue,” she said. “We’ve seen a significant jump in the quality of our embryos and in our culture system, and we’ve seen improvement in the pregnancy rates as well.”

The average improvement of 19.7 percentage points is based on data collected from 3,535 cycles and 7,733 embryos transferred over a nine- to 18-month period following installation of the LifeAire system. The findings are inclusive of all maternal ages.

“By having 14 programs throughout the country share their results with us, we continue to demonstrate the positive impact of the LifeAire Systems’ technology on IVF success,” said Philip Coburn, Chief Operating Officer of LifeAire.

Note on data reported:

An ASRM 2014 abstract of 1,245 cycles demonstrated a statistically significant increase of 14.8% in ongoing pregnancy rate and a statistically significant decrease of 11.9% in loss rate. Additionally, the data demonstrated statistically significant increases in implantation rate and blastocyst conversion rate. These figures are referenced in Fertility and Sterility.

More recently in 2015, data from 14 IVF programs, 3,535 cycles and 7,733 embryos was analyzed. The data was collected from programs having used the LifeAire Systems technology for 6-18 months. Retrospective data was collected for the same period of time prior to the installation of the technology and showed an average weighted increase in clinical pregnancy rates of 19.7%. Specific measures of embryogenesis also demonstrated statistically significant improvements, and the data is currently being analyzed.
